Mining Tradeshow Interactive Experience

Making Complex Products Easier to Explore Through Interaction

This project focused on designing an interactive application to showcase complex industrial products in a more engaging and intuitive way, for the biggest tradeshow in the mining industry: MINExpo.

The goal was to help users better understand product features and capabilities through a guided, touch-based experience.

I was responsible for defining the interaction flow, structuring the experience, and designing the interface.

  • Company: Weir Motion Metrics
  • Role: UX/UI Designer
  • Scope: Interaction design, UI design, product storytelling
  • Platform: Intuiface (interactive app)
  • Timeline: 1 week
  • Content: 200+ pages

The Challenge

  •  Product information was complex and difficult to communicate clearly
  • Traditional formats (static pages, presentations) were not engaging
  • Users needed a more intuitive way to explore features and understand value
  • No clear structure for navigating product information interactively

This made it harder for users to quickly grasp key information.

Constraints

  • Designed for a touch-based, interactive environment
  • Needed to balance visual engagement with clarity
  • Limited time to translate complex technical content into simple interactions (1 week)
  • Had to ensure usability for a broad audience (technical + non-technical users)

Approach

Understanding the Experience

Understanding the Experience

Understanding the Experience

The goal wasn’t just to display information, but to guide users through it.

I focused on:

  • Reducing cognitive load
  • Structuring content into digestible sections
  • Creating a clear interaction flow

Defining the User Flow

Understanding the Experience

Understanding the Experience

I structured the experience into clear steps:

  • Entry point (overview of product)
  • Exploration (features, details)
  • Deeper interaction (specific content and visuals)

This helped users move from high-level understanding to detailed exploration.

Designing Interaction Patterns

Designing Interaction Patterns

Designing Interaction Patterns

I designed interactions that:

  • Encourage exploration through touch
  • Reveal information progressively (instead of overwhelming users)
  • Maintain consistency across screens

Visual & UI Design

Designing Interaction Patterns

Designing Interaction Patterns

  • Clean, minimal interface to avoid overwhelming users
  • Strong visual hierarchy to guide attention
  • Consistent layout across sections
  • Designed for clarity over decoration

Solution

Designed a touch-based interface that allows users to explore product features step-by-step, making complex information easier to understand.

Progressive Disclosure

Information is revealed progressively, helping users absorb content without feeling overwhelmed.

Adapting the Solution for Real-World Use

While the initial concept focused on a fully custom interactive experience, the final solution was adapted using Prezi to better support internal teams.

This decision allowed for:

  • Easier updates by non-designers
  • Faster deployment across teams
  • Greater flexibility for ongoing content changes

Prezi Interactive Experience

Final interactive experience adapted for internal use, enabling teams to easily present and navigate product information.

Outcome & Key Takeaways

Outcome

  • Improved clarity in how products are presented
  • Created a more engaging and interactive experience
  • Made complex information more accessible to a wider audience
  • Provided a scalable structure for future interactive content

Key Takeaways

  • Interaction design plays a key role in simplifying complex information
  • Guiding users through content is more effective than presenting everything at once
  • Designing for engagement should not compromise clarity

Reflection

This project reinforced the importance of balancing interaction and usability. While the goal was to create an engaging experience, ensuring clarity and ease of navigation was essential to make the product truly effective.
